Production on the as-yet-untitled Peaky Blinders film is officially underway, and in celebration, the streamer released two photos from the set. Above, you can see Oscar winner Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer) back in character as gangster Tommy Shelby; below, Murphy and original series creator Steven Knight appear together behind the scenes:
As previously reported, Rebecca Ferguson (Silo), Barry Keoghan (The Banshees of Inisherin) and Tim Roth (Lie to Me, Tin Star) have all boarded the project. Though details on each actor’s role are being kept under wraps, you can get a first look at Keoghan’s character below:
Knight penned the movie script, while Tom Harper, who directed several episodes during Peaky’s first season, will return to helm the film.
Additional plot details have not been disclosed. No further casting has been announced as of press time.
Peaky Blinders, which aired for six seasons on Netflix, followed a notorious gang in 1919 Birmingham, England, led by the fierce Tommy Shelby, a crime boss set on moving up in the world no matter the cost. The series wrapped up in 2022, but Knight hinted at the time that a movie was in the works: “I can say that my plan from the beginning was to end Peaky with a movie. That is what is going to happen.”
Murphy, of course, has seen his fame shoot into the stratosphere in the past year after starring as theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer in the Christopher Nolan film Oppenheimer. The movie was a surprise smash at the box office and earned seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Murphy.
