Pensioner trapped for 48 hours after falling through outbuilding floor

A 70-year-old woman was trapped for 48 hours after falling through the floor of a building in Wales. Aberdyfi Search & Rescue Team call-handlers were alerted to the terrifying incident near Pennal, Gwynedd, at around 2pm on Thursday, April 18.

The elderly woman had fallen into an old vehicle inspection pit of an outbuilding at a remote property near the village and was unable to get out or call for help. A police officer visited the property following concerns raised by a family member who couldn't reach her, according to the rescue team.

The team said an officer noticed a set of keys hanging from the garage door and, upon further investigation, found the woman stuck in the pit. Volunteers from the team, along with police officers and a crew from the Welsh Ambulance Service, attended the scene. They were eventually able to rescue the woman with the help of a ladder.

An Aberdyfi Search & Rescue Team statement continued: "Team volunteers along with Police Officers and a Welsh Ambulance Services Trust (WAST) crew attended the incident, and, armed with a ladder, were able to assist the woman out. She was assessed by the WAST crew and found to be cold and dehydrated but remarkably otherwise in reasonable shape considering her ordeal."
