A group went to help some people in difficulty on the shoreline of the Menai Strait and then got stuck. The party saw persons in potential difficulty off the coast at Pwll-faenog, near the Britannia Bridge at Llanfairpwll.

They went to their aid with emergency services responding - including the RNLI, coastguard and police. But the group then became trapped by the tide.

The RNLI team at Beaumaris attended the incident on Tuesday night. They were able to locate the people and transported them back to a safe point - leaving them with the police and coastguard.

It was their second launch of that evening.

A spokesman for RNLI Beaumaris said: "The second launch was just after midnight on Tuesday following a report of people in potential difficulty on the shoreline at Pwll-faenog near Llanfair PG. A group of people had gone to help and had become isolated by the tide. The lifeboat transported them back to a safe point ashore, so that the Coastguard Rescue Team from Penmon and Bangor Coastguard Rescue Team - North Wales, together with the Police could assist them further."

An RNLI spokesperson added: "If you do ever find yourself in difficulty in the water, remember Float to Live: tilt your head back with ears submerged and try to relax and control your breathing. Use your hands to help you stay afloat and then, once you are through the initial shock, call for help to or swim to safety if you can.”
