People living near a chemical plant in South Wales have been warned to keep their doors and windows shut in the wake of a leak.

South Wales Police issued the advice in the wake of an incident at Dow Corning in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan. It has affected people living right across the area.

South Wales Police, in a statement on X, formerly Twitter, said: “Please be advised that there has been a chemical leak at Dow Corning in Barry and residents in the Dinas Powys, Sully and Penarth areas are advised to close doors and windows as a precaution while the matter is being dealt with.”

The force thanked people for their patience.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service also shared the same advice after being called to the scene.

The service issued an update on Saturday and added: “Barry have now given an all clear.

“We would like to thank residents in the area for their cooperation.”
