Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola heaped praise on England starlet Phil Foden, saying "he can do everything", as the 18-year-old helped his side seal top spot in Champions League Group F.

Foden started a game outside of the EFL Cup for the first time this season as City beat Hoffenheim 2-1, in the same week that he signed a new five-and-a-half-year deal to commit his long-term future to the club.

Leroy Sane scored twice, including a sensational first half free-kick, as City came from behind to win, but Guardiola reserved special praise for Foden.

"Incredible, incredible," Guardiola said of Foden's performance on BT Sport. "We don't have any doubts about his quality. He's very difficult to play against.

"He can do everything - in terms of mentality, he can score goals, he's a fighter, he's intelligent, his body shape, his control.”

Guardiola admitted that Foden faces tough competition to feature more regularly, but reiterated his belief that the youngster is ready to play.

"The squad is good and he has to compete with David Silva, with Kevin (De Bruyne), with Gundogan, but he's an amazing player.

"He's just 18 years old, so to be playing Champions League in a really important game with a lot of absentees...we didn't have any doubts about him that he's completely ready to play at the top level."
