Cattersty Sands - tucked away next to the village of Skinningrove - is a hidden gem.

Despite receiving fewer visitors than other Yorkshire beaches, its serenity attracts those lucky enough to stumble upon it. Nestled between Skinningrove and Whitby, Cattersty Sands can be found after a short, pleasant coastal walk from the village.

Known lovingly by locals as the 'Saltburn side' or 'Sunny Side', the beach boasts expansive sandy stretches, impressive sand dunes, and unbroken coastal views. For hiking enthusiasts, the renowned Cleveland Way walkway, which spans 109 miles across the area, passes by this idyllic spot.

The beauty of Cattersty Sands hasn't escaped national notice, even featuring in The Guardian where it garnered favourable reviews. One journalist referred to the peaceful shore as 'stunning and empty' during a walk along the Cleveland Way.

Tourists who have discovered Cattersty Sands have nothing but high praise for it on TripAdvisor, showering accolades such as "unspoilt", "stunning", and often, a "hidden gem". One particularly entranced reviewer penned: "Don't tell anyone but this has got to be one of the most stunning beaches I've ever seen in this country! ", reports Yorkshire Live.

"After parking in a very unassuming but free car park we walked along towards the newly built seawall and as we went through a gap, wow what a sight, it was so beautiful. I'd love to visit in the summer to see how busy it gets but today we had it to ourselves - fabulous."

Another local chimed in: "A lovely sandy smallish beach which on a hot day makes you think you are abroad on a very secluded private beach. Just perfect." However, there was one downside mentioned - the amount of dog faeces seen along the stretch leading up to the beach.

One Yorkshire dad shared his experience on his blog: "I'll be honest, there are plenty of dog waste bins along here but they don't appear to be well used! Do not let this put you off, just keep going. You will come to a kind of gateway that was once a bridge that carried the iron ore railway out to the waiting ships. Stepping through that gateway is like stepping into Narnia (but with sand, not snow).

"Cattersty Sands is a long, golden expanse of lovely clean sand. I stress the clean part as I mentioned the dog mess strewn approach earlier. When I say there is nothing here but the sea and the sand I am not kidding. No food outlets, toilets, games, arcades, donkeys or doughnuts. Nada. Zilch. Diddly squat! It's perfect! ".
