Performing arts teacher taking on 24-hour danceathon challenge – and kids step up to help keep him going

Dance teacher Fraser Murray’s is taking part in a 24-hour danceathon in Scunthorpe.

Fraser was aiming to keep on is feet and moving to some of the best tunes by spending a full day raising funds to develop Kimberley Performing Arts Centre (KPAC),. Fraser invited dancers of all ages who attend classes at the centre, in Enderby Road, to pay to join him for stints during the dizzying challenge.

He already had takers early on in the challenge, which began at noon on Thursday. The danceathon is set to conclude at noon today.

By that point, Fraser will have worked his way through many different genres of music and dance, and some costume changes as well, with plans to raise at least £1,000 for KPAC. He has supporters backing him on a GoFundMe page and welcomes all donations - the total was at more than £1,700 by Friday morning.

“We’re slowly raising the money for a new building – it’s about £1m we need – and we hold lots of things like Christmas events, summer fairs and we’ve had a Strictly Come Dancing night,” Fraser previously told Scunthorpe Live. “Now I’m doing this 24-hour danceathon. I just hope my body holds out.”

The plan is to be able to develop a new building that will give Scunthorpe a hub where “everyone and anyone can come and dance”. The new-build will provide improved spaces for performances, rehearsals, and classes.
