Person dies after falling on mountain in Snowdonia

A hiker sadly lost their life after a fall on a mountain in Snowdonia.

The incident on Tryfan happened on Friday evening last week prompting an emergency response and an update from rescuers today, North Wales Live reports.

In an update, the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation said: "The team were called out on Friday evening after a walker witnessed someone falling from the south ridge. Maritime and Coastguard Agency R936 was requested and Royal Air Force Mountain Rescue Service teams from RAF Valley and RAF Lossiemouth training close by also volunteered."

The victim was found by the helicopter team but tragically did not survive the fall. The mountain rescue team were flown to the location to aid the winchman, and successfully lowered the casualty down into Cwm Tryfan, where they were then collected by the Coastguard.

Extending heartfelt condolences, the team said: "The thoughts of all involved are with the casualty's family and friends."
