Person dies on incident on train tracks

A person has died on train tracks in Somerset yesterday (Tuesday, July 2) following a major 999 response. Emergency services were called to the incident near Highbridge at 6.09pm.

Police and paramedics rushed to the scene but the person was sadly pronounced dead. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

The incident led to train delays between Taunton and Bristol Temple Meads yesterday evening. Some services were cancelled while others were delayed by up to an hour.

British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to the line near Highbridge at around 6.09pm last night (2 July) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
