Person dies in North Yorkshire mudslide as police issue statement

Police have confirmed that one person has died in a mudslide in North Yorkshire.

The mudslide, in Carlton-in-Cleveland, occurred at approximately 1.15pm today (Wednesday, May 22). One person sadly died at the scene but no one else was injured.

Emergency services, including North Yorkshire Police, remain at the scene and are managing the situation. The area is cordoned off while they respond to the incident.

North Yorkshire Police are asking the public to avoid the area to allow their teams to work efficiently and to respect the privacy of those affected.

A spokesperson for the force added: “We are actively gathering information and will provide further updates as soon as we can. We would ask the public to refrain from speculation and spreading unverified information.
