Person dies on train tracks near Bristol

A person died on the train tracks near Bristol this morning (Friday, May 17). Police were called to the line near Weston-super-Mare at 10.52am.

Emergency services rushed to the area but a person was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Their death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

Train services between Taunton and Bristol Temple Meads were cancelled or delayed following the incident. CrossCountry Trains warned customers of delays of up to an hour on some services.

British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to the line near Weston-Super Mare at around 10.52am today (17 May) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
