Person 'killed in crash' on major Greater Manchester road

A person has died in a horror crash on a major road outside the city centre, the Manchester Evening News understands. Police have closed off Regent Road and a number of surrounding roads close to Mancunian Way this morning (July 5).

Officers were called out to a serious collision on Water Street at 2.53am. Regent Road, over the Salford border, has been sealed off by officers since the crash, with drivers urged to avoid the area.

A forensic tent is in place at the scene, while evidence markers have been placed on the road. Officers have been taking images from the road as part of evidence being gathered, while police tape has been placed in some areas.

A GMP spokesman said: "Emergency services are responding to a serious collision that occurred on Water Street, Manchester at around 2:53am this morning (Friday, July 5 2024). A scene remains in place while our Serious Collision Investigation Unit continue their investigation.

"Road closures remain in place and drivers are advised to find alternative routes and plan their journeys accordingly." A tweet from the Bee Network warned road users: "Delays in the area are expected, plan your route."
