Pete Davidson Hopes To Cash In On VHS Nostalgia & Stocks Up On Sealed Movie Tapes: “It’s Gonna Happen”

Pete Davidson is playing the waiting game in a get-rich scheme he has going which relies on nostalgia for VHS tapes.

The Saturday Night Live alum, who is set to host the NBC sketch show this week, made an appearance on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon where he explained why he was stocking up on VHS tapes.

“I started collecting VHSes that were sealed in the box like three years ago ’cause I was really high one night,” Davidson told the late-night show host. “So listen to this, guys: In 2026, it’ll be 20 years since the last VHS was made, right? So 20 years goes by — that’s enough time for people to be like, ‘Oh, that was cool, remember?’ Like vinyl? So I bought all the sealed ones that exist — like, three to five thousand tapes.”

The audience and Fallon started laughing at Davidson’s idea to which he said, “You guys sound like my mom! No one believes in me!”

Davidson proceeded to state some facts as to how his plan is going and things are seemingly looking bright for the comedian.

“As of a month ago, sealed VHSes are now going for 20 to 30,000 grand a pop!” he said. “Rocky just sold for $27,000. It’s my GameStop. I own all of them, dude! Dude, no one believed in me! It’s gonna happen, you guys!”

If the scheme doesn’t work, Davidson predicts that he will “be on the road forever.”
