Peter Andre says 'I love that' as he considers beautiful Welsh girl's name for newborn daughter
Australian singer-songwriter and TV personality Peter Andre has revealed that he would consider a Welsh name for his new daughter – and particularly likes the name Seren. The 51-year-old and wife Dr Emily MacDonagh welcomed their third child together at the start of April. The couple already have two other children, Millie and Theo.
Speaking to WalesOnline ahead of his appearance at the Foodies Festival, which is coming to Cardiff in May, Peter discussed how he and Emily are yet to decide on a name for their daughter, weeks after her birth. “We haven't got a name yet, which is very strange,” he said.
“Honestly I had one of my cousins ring me going, 'Have you got a name but you're just not telling anyone?' I said, 'No, literally.' Really, this happened with my daughter Millie. We called her Rose until we had to register her six weeks later, and then we realised Rose didn't suit her.” Get the best user experience with WalesOnline’s Premium app on Apple or Android

Upon being presented with a series of Welsh names, Peter, who also shares two children with his ex-wife, was enthusiastic. After the name Seren was suggested, which means ‘star’ in Welsh, he said: “I love that!”
Peter added of Welsh names: "I would [choose a Welsh name] because someone else suggested Irish as well. There are similarities, maybe not completely, but even with Carys and Seren, there are a couple of Irish names that were mentioned to me that are similar to that. It's giving me this thinking outside the box."
The Mysterious Girl singer shared how he first ‘fell in love’ with the Welsh accent in the early noughties. Peter was offered the chance to appear on one of the early series of Channel 4’s Big Brother and although he turned it down, he tuned in and enjoyed hearing contestant Imogen Thomas’ voice. “I'm thankful to her because she got me into the Welsh accent just by being on that show.”
As mentioned Peter will join a whole host of other stars when he both sings and cooks at the Foodies Festival, which is coming to Cardiff’s Bute Park from May 10 to 12. Known as Gastro-Glastonbury, the three-day event will feature live cooking demonstrations from TV celebrities and chefs drawn from the ranks of MasterChef, Great British Bake Off and Great British Menu.
Showcasing the best of Cardiff and beyond, many of the region's most-highly acclaimed Michelin and multi-award-winning chefs will also appear, including James Sommerin, Chef Patron from Michelin-starred Home at Penarth, Carl Cleghorn, Executive Chef from hornbury Castle and Anand George, Chef-Patron from Michelin recommended Purple Poppadom, Cardiff.
A self-confessed ‘foodie’, Peter – who appeared on the most recent series of ITV’s Cooking with the Stars – shared his excitement ahead of the event. He also revealed that at home he’s the cook. “I'm a bit obsessed with cooking. I have about four or five signature dishes that I love doing. Everything from peanut butter chicken with coconut rice to rib eye steak with cream and sweet chilli mushroom sauce and steam rice, and also Mediterranean-style rice. You can tell that rice is a big part of it.”
Peter loves food so much, in fact, that he is precious about criticism he receives about his cooking. “I don't get offended if someone doesn't like anything I do work-wise, but it hurts me if someone doesn't like my food,” he joked.
At the upcoming event Peter will be performing his iconic 1995 hit Mysterious Girl, which is a song that he said he is ‘surprised’ has had such longevity. He explained: “Someone recently said to me, ‘Does it annoy you that you're only known for one song’ I said, ‘How could it annoy me to be known for a song? Imagine people who've released music and no one remembers any of them.’ How lucky am I after all these years that people still sing Mysterious Girl. I still headline shows where I'll go and do it and the whole place will erupt, and it's just amazing.”
While he is known for his music and reality TV appearances, notably on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2004, Peter will next turn his hand to acting. He confirmed that he has numerous film roles coming out in the next year and people will be surprised to see him in a new light.
Focus at the minute will be on his children though. Wife Emily, whom he married in 2015, gave birth to the couple’s daughter on April 2. The singer announced the news in a post on Instagram that read: "Just minutes old… We feel so overwhelmed right now," announced Peter. "So happy to welcome our beautiful girl to the family. Mum and daughter are doing amazing. Born Tuesday 2nd April 2024, 7lb 3oz and thankfully very healthy.
"Baby has been spoilt with cuddles from Junior, Princess, Amelia and Theo who are all in love with their new little sister. As parents, we couldn't be happier."
