Peter Andre Thought Emily MacDonagh Would Leave Him When His Brother Died

Peter Andre has opened up about an incredibly dark time in his life, revealing that he was so affected by his brother’s death in December 2012 that he thought that his wife, Emily MacDonagh, would leave him.

Peter has admitted to suffering with crippling anxiety attacks as he “hit rock bottom” after 54-year-old Andrew tragically passed away following a battle with kidney cancer.

The star goes on to admit that Emily’s determination to remain by his side is what proved to him that they would be together forever, sharing: “When I hit rock bottom I thought Emily was going to leave me. She’s told me how difficult it was to be with me.

"I told her at the time ‘Go, you don’t have to deal with me’, but she said no way - that she was in it for the long haul.

"She was so matter-of-fact about staying… I knew I’d spend the rest of my life with her. If someone doesn’t argue with you when you’re at rock bottom and shutting them out, you can get through anything.”

Peter proposed to Emily just one year after Andrew’s death and shortly before she gave birth to their daughter Amelia, who is now two, admitting that he brought forward their wedding because of his ailing father.

Speaking of his desire to have a longer engagement, Peter added to OK magazine: “I wasn’t in a rush to get married after being married before.

"It took me a long time to come round to the idea because my intention was to be like my mum and dad, who’ve been married for 61 years. I believe in the institution of marriage and if something has failed in the past, you don’t want to fail again.

"Emily fell pregnant and I didn’t want her family thinking we were just boyfriend and girlfriend and question if we’d stay together.

"I know the baby was born out of wedlock, but being engaged is almost as good. I knew I wanted to marry her but I would’ve waited a few years. It was only because my father got ill that we brought it forward.”

Emily is currently pregnant with her and Peter’s second child together, with Peter also being dad to Princess, 9, and Junior, 11, with his ex-wife, Katie Price.
