Peter Pan to sprinkle magic at Northumberland's Bamburgh Castle this weekend

The tale of the boy who can fly and never grows up will play out in the grounds of Bamburgh Castle this weekend in a musical show which promises to have audiences hooked.

Peter Pan is inviting families on a journey to Neverland on Saturday in a new take on J.M Barrie's much-loved adventure story, bringing to life the characters of Peter, fairy Tinkerbell and siblings Wendy and Peter as they fly off to a magical island where they encounter Captain Hook and his sidekick Smee. It will all take place against the dramatic backdrop of the Northumberland castle with music, audience participation and lots of laughs.

Bamburgh Castle has teamed up with Immersion Theatre company to host the show and, while no doubt there will be fingers crossed for the weather, there are guarantees of plenty of cheer. The castle's event manager Kate Newman said: “We’re really excited to be bringing this brilliant new adaption of Peter Pan to visitors of all ages.

"With laugh-a-minute lines, catchy music to dance and sing along to and bags of audience interaction that’ll appeal to little ones - and those young at heart - it’s going to be a wonderful evening." She added: “As the performance begins at 6pm, it will be even more exciting and magical for visitors to experience being inside the castle grounds outside our usual opening hours and to see the sights at that time of day.”

Gates at the castle will open on July 13 at 5.30pm so families can enjoy the the grounds and its spectacular views. The show will then start at 6pm with the performance set to last one hour and 40 minutes including interval.
