Peter Wright in Scotland Darts World Cup roar as he vows to 'smash up England' in semi final showdown

Peter Wright admitted Gary Anderson pulled out him of the poo to set up a Darts World Cup semi-final against England.

Backed by Tartan Army members singing in the crowd, the Scotland pair survived a Swedish scare to edge into the Auld Enemy showdown. Anderson emerged as the hero as he hauled struggling Wright through a nightmare show to see-off the Scandinavians.

The Scots won the first leg before falling behind and trailing all the way through. With two legs to go, they were on the brink of elimination to the inspired underdogs, impressive Jeffrey de Graaf and partner Oskar Lukasiak But Anderson stepped up to hit a 117 finish in the penultimate leg to level and then pinned tops under severe pressure to win it. Wright said: “Gary is awesome. I love him to bits and he pulls me out of the poo when I am playing rubbish.

“I was feeling disappointed not backing Gary up, but he pulled out everything there. His shoulders were as big as the stage to carry me, but no Scotland, no party. Now we’re going to smash up England!”

Scotland go in against the last two World Champions in Luke Humphries and Michael Smith with either Belgium or Austria awaiting the winners in the Final. Anderson added: “The first darts were a mile off, last darts maybe sneaking in. We scraped it.

“Sweden have been brilliant, but we are still in. We have taken it easy since we got here, which is completely the wrong thing to do, so now we’re now getting onto the practice boards.”
