Peterborough General Election 2024 results in full as Labour wins by narrow margin


Andrew Pakes was declared as the new Labour MP Peterborough after a full recount. He defeated Paul Bristow (Conservative) by 118 votes with the result announced shortly after 5am on Friday (July 5).

He said it was "the privilege of my life" to be voted in. He said: "I love Peterborough and I'm genuine about it.

"I love not just the people, the architecture, the buildings, the leisure. I love the potential, I love the opportunity, I love the talent and ability we have as a city to do the things we want to do to make life better for all of our residents."

Paul Bristow was elected to the seat as Conservative candidate in the 2019 election. In his concession speech, he thanked his supporters and said Mr Pakes now had a 'fantastic job' ahead of him.

He said: "I'm sorry I didn't quite get us there – the result was very, very close. I just want to say how sorry I am that we didn't quite get there and deliver for all of you."

The candidates standing in Peterborough were:

  • Bristow, Paul (Local Conservatives): 13,300

  • Day, Nicola (The Green Party): 2,542

  • Hussain, Amjad (Workers Party of Britain): 5,051

  • Khan, Zahid Ejaz (Independent): 211

  • Morris, Sue (Reform UK): 5,379

  • Pakes, Andrew (Labour and Co-operative Party): 13,418

  • Rogers, Tom (Christian Peoples Alliance): 225

  • Sandford, Nick (Liberal Democrat): 1,746

The results were announced shortly after 2am. The constituency had a turn out of 51.77 per cent.
