An online petition to encourage Apple to introduce a ginger emoji has gained more than 12,000 supporters.

Published on Change.org, the petition is the work of Ginger Parrot - a website for and about red-headed folk.

While Apple recently introduced racially diverse emoji icons as part of its latest iOS update, as well as more female options for previously male-centric characters, redheads have been missed out.

That's why Ginger Parrot is "standing up for the all gingerkind" and petitioning for the inclusion of redheads in the emoji family.

As well as signing the online petition, supporters of the cause can also get themselves a ginger emoji pin to promote the cause.
