Philippe Clement responds to Rangers title blow and brands Dundee 'lucky'

Defiant Philippe Clement believes Rangers' fate is STIll in their hands despite handing Celtic further breathing room at the top.

Sluggish Gers couldn't find a way through a robust Dundee side who claimed a point that could be priceless in their own chase for Europe. But for Rangers, it was a costly one, and after dropped points in three consecutive league games, it leaves Celtic three clear at the top after 33 games played each.

It means their rivals could now theoretically claim the championship even if Rangers beat them at Parkhead on May 11. But when asked if they were favourites, he said on BBC Sportsound: "I don't speak about favourites. I didn't do it a few weeks ago, I won't do it now. If we win all the games, we still have our fate in our hands. Now we have to put those things aside and we now have a big cup game on Sunday, all the focus is on that."

An optimistic Clement wasn't as critical of his team's performance and he hinted Dundee's point, which was wildly celebrated in Tayside, was down to LUCK as much as anything else. He went on: "The focus was there today. It was nothing to do with focus, or desire, or will. It was efficiency and being decisive in the final third. And a part of luck, also."

On that last point, he went on: "Recently we scored three goals against Celtic, and we scored two against Ross County. Don't take conclusions from this game. We are still a team who score a lot of goals. There was a good goalkeeper on the other side and they made a few blocks on the line. There was a lot that was not on our side, and because of that we did not get a result."

And when asked to respond to fans, some of whom now feel the title race is OVER, Clement went on: "I think in October, for all the fans, the league was over. If we win the last five games, they're going to be really happy. So we're going to fight really hard for that like the team has done for the six months that I've been with them. I was unhappy with last week's performance but this one, if we score, it's a totally different game. So we're going to fight hard to the end to be decisive in the league."
