Schofield issues new statement post-This MorningITV

Phillip Schofield has issued a new statement after his exit from This Morning.

In the week and a bit since his departure from the ITV show, Schofield has parted ways with the channel and his agent and confirmed rumours of an affair with a younger male colleague.

The channel stated that it investigated said rumours in early 2020 and found no evidence, while regular show guest Dr Ranj made a post claiming that there is a wider "toxic" culture at the show.

Now, Schofield has spoken out in favour of his former show, calling it "the best show to work on".

In a new Instagram story, the presenter said: "Now I no longer work on @thismorning I am free to say this. I hope you have noticed it's the same handful of people with a grudge against me or the show who seem to have the loudest voice.

"This Morning IS the best show to work on, with the best people. In all the years I worked there there was no toxicity. You can listen to those persistently loud voices if you like. But the thousands of guests over the years, thousands of staff and crew, hundreds of presenters and contributors all know, it IS a family of talented, kind, hard working people."

Last week, Schofield - who had presented This Morning for twenty years - released a statement admitting to an affair with a "younger male colleague" who had worked on the show.

Schofield said he knew the man as a teenager and was asked to help him get a job in television, but states that it didn't become "more than a friendship" until he had joined the show at a later date.

"I have lied to my employers at ITV, to my colleagues and friends, to my agents, to the media and therefore the public and most importantly of all to my family," he wrote.

This Morning airs on weekdays from 10am on ITV1.
