BOSSES at Colchester's newest entertainment hub have said the site has received a "phenomenal" response since it opened its doors to residents.

Colchester's Hollywood Bowl site has finally opened, enjoying a "positive" opening weekend with "high footfall".

The venue is the newest addition to the city's ever-expanding multi-million Northern Gateway project.

The site also saw its newest restaurant Slim Chickens, neighbouring Hollywood Bowl, open its doors last Thursday.

A spokesman from the Hollywood Bowl group said: "The response to Hollywood Bowl Colchester has been phenomenal.

"Our opening weekend saw high footfall and customer feedback has been really positive.

"It's encouraging to see local family and friends enjoying our bowling, mini golf and amusement arcades and we're looking forward to welcoming new and returning customers in the future."

The venue opened on June 22, and has been drawing in punters with its 26 bowling lanes.

The lanes are split among two floors and even include four VIP lanes.

The VIP lanes offer comfy lounge seating and extra touches such as football or pool-style bowling balls.

It is not only bowling visitors can partake in, with mini golf also available at the Hollywood Bowl site.

There are two ten-hole courses, accompanied by a large amusement area with an array of games.

Food and drink are also available to bowlers directly to the lane or to your table through a QR, creating absolute ease for customers.

Next door to Hollywood Bowl, is the new Slim Chickens restaurant.

Slim Chickens opened Thursday, June 20.

Manager Andreea Adamoiu said: “It’s been steady since we opened and there is definitely more people to come."

The site had been open beforehand for deliveries only.

Still to come from the ever-growing Northern Gateway project includes brands such as Kervan Kitchen, El Guaca, Kaspa’s Desserts, Joyato sushi and grill, Nines and Taste of Italy.

A large Cineworld complex is also expected to open at the site too.
