Today, polls opened for the General Election and millions are heading out to cast their vote. But what did the last election look like in the North East?

2019 seems like it was a lifetime ago, but it was the last time the UK had their chance to go to the polls for a general election.

The nation turned out and gave the Conservatives an unprecedented majority with a total of 365 seats.

In the North East, the Conservatives managed to win Blyth, Darlington as well as Sedgefield from Labour, which lost 60 seats across the country.

Fast forward to five years later, Sir Keir Starmer and Rishi Sunak have been up and down the country vying for votes with latest polls saying Labour could cinch a majority of over 200 seats.

To look back, here are just a few pictures from the 2019 General Election campaign in the North East.
