The streets of a North Yorkshire seaside town were once again taken over by hundreds of goths as day two of the iconic Goth weekend was underway.
Whitby was transformed into a weird wonderland yesterday (April 27) as hordes of people donned Gothic, Steampunk and macabre costumes to celebrate the second day of the bi-annual weekend.
The streets were packed with people wearing all manner of ghoulish outfits in what has become an institution for the town.
Described as one of the world’s “premier Goth events” by organisers the alternative festival was first held in 1994 as a small meet-up of Goths and has since spiralled in popularity.
The event also features an alternative market with more than 100 stalls as well as free DJ nights at The Abbey Wharf (Thursday), Heavier Than a Heavy Thing (Friday), Berties' Big Stick of Rock (Saturday) and Rock Off (Sunday).
Whitby is understood to have been chosen to host the event due to its links with Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
Held twice a year goths descended on the North Yorkshire town from Friday (April 26) to Sunday (April 29) and will return in early November (November 1-3).
