Picturesque Bioluminescent Waves Crash Onto Beach

A photographer was treated to a picturesque scene as a bioluminescent wave crashed along Manly Beach in Sydney, Australia on December 28.

Video recorded by Anthony Haber shows the neon blue wave crests shine at night, as moonlight peeks behind the clouds.

Bioluminescence is the production and emission of light by a living organism, such as algae.

It is a natural phenomenon that most often occurs during calm and warm sea conditions. In Australia, bioluminescent algae are commonly seen in South Australian waters, according to state officials. Credit: Anthony Haber Photography via Storyful
