Piers Morgan forced to apologise live on air after Charlotte Hawkins BAFTA swipe

Piers Morgan ruffled feathers on today’s Good Morning Britain, after taking an on-air swipe at fellow presenter Charlotte Hawkins.

The outspoken presenter upset viewers – not to mention fellow presenter Charlotte who was with him in the studio – after making a jealous remark about her BAFTA TV win last night.

Having been a part of The Grand National televised coverage, Charlotte, 42, celebrated the win – something Piers, 53, contested as his envy shone through.

Questioning her win, Piers said: ‘Did I miss something, what did you win that for? I am told you were not on stage.’

To which Charlotte replied: ‘I am part of the team, part of ITV racing.’

Seemingly unconvinced, Piers decided to bring up the time Britain’s Got Talent won a BAFTA in 2010, when he was part of the judging team.

But Charlotte firmly put him in his place, playing up to his seething jealousy by goading him further: ‘I wanted to help them celebrate it,[ she explained.

‘Jealously is a horrible thing just because I’ve got a BAFTA and you haven’t.’

One viewer in particular called him out on his attitude, branding him a ‘horrible, nasty, jealous person’.

‘@piersmorgan … What a horrible, nasty, jealous person you are. Constantly putting people down. Charlotte is proud of the Bafta & you were a green eyed monster towards it. Horrible viewing.’

And in typical Piers Morgan fashion, he addressed the comment live on GMB, issuing an apology and tweeting it as well.

‘On reflection, you’re right. I’m so sorry @CharlotteHawkns – you were fabulous dahling, and your BAFTA is as well deserved as… Love Island’s,’ he shared with his 6.5 million followers.

Charlotte, however, wasn’t quite convinced of his ‘heartfelt’ apology.

And later on, the presenter didn’t hold back in further celebrating her BAFTA win by snapping a photo of her with it in the GMB studio.

‘Celebrating our @itvracing #Bafta win on @GMB this morning!’ she beamed.

Catch GMB weekdays, from 6.30am, on ITV1.
