Piers Morgan has said he walked off Good Morning Britain to stop himself slapping Alex Beresford.

The outspoken presenter made headlines everywhere when he stormed off the ITV show amid a row about Meghan Markle and her bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview.

He brought it up again following Will Smith’s outburst at the Oscars, which saw the actor slap comedian Chris Rock after he made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head.

Morgan had shared his thoughts on what went on, tweeting that he would have "probably done the same" if someone had mocked his wife in a similar fashion.

However, his comments sparked a backlash among his followers, with some saying they doubted he would have acted.

One person tweeted a laughing emoji and wrote: “Course you would!”

Morgan then tweeted a picture of him walking off GMB, and replied: “Ironically, I walked out to stop myself slapping him…”

While the Oscars were being broadcast, Morgan proclaimed Will Smith's physical attack on Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars ceremony the 'ugliest moment in Oscars history'.

Morgan was watching the Oscars at home on TV and tweeted: "It was real. Just seen the uncensored footage. Will Smith hit Chris Rock for cracking a GI Jane joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith (who suffers from alopecia) - then twice screamed 'keep my wife's name out of your f***ing mouth' at him."

Just a day after the TV presenter stated he would have done the same as the King Richard star.

He has said he wants the programme to be a platform for “lively vigorous debate, news-making interviews, and that increasingly taboo three-letter word: fun”.
