Piers Morgan slams NTA Award nomination for Ant McPartlin: ‘He’s been sitting on his backside'

Piers Morgan has slated the decision by the organisers of the National Television Awards to nominate Ant & Dec for two of its most coveted gongs.

The pair have been nominated once again for both the Best TV Presenter award, and The Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award, which they also won last year.

The nominations come in spite of the fact that Ant McPartlin has spent much of the last year taking a break from work, following his conviction for drink driving.

McPartlin also took the time off to deal with his issues surrounding addiction.

But speaking this morning on Good Morning Britain, Morgan showed little sympathy.

“By the way, you know how I was joking about Ant and Dec getting nominated for NTAs because they win it every year, when one of them hadn’t done any work this year. It’s happened!” he said.

“They’ll win. Even though Ant’s basically been sitting on his backside from what I can see walking his dog for the last year. He’s got an award.”

“I love Ant but come on, really? Really British public? You’re going to give the award again to the guy who hasn’t done any work this year?”

Ant & Dec have won the Best Presenter category at the NTAs for a stunning 17 years in a row, with nominees this year also including Bradley Walsh, Graham Norton, Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

Willoughby stood in for Ant alongside Declan Donnelly on the most recent series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here, during Ant’s time out.

McPartlin is returning to the fold later this month, as filming begins on the new series of Britain’s Got Talent.
