Syklar Astin is dishing on Pitch Perfect's cast group chats.

Speaking with PEOPLE at the 2024 Tony Awards red carpet on June 16, the actor, 36, talked up his favorite part of reuniting with his Pitch Perfect costar Ben Platt at Platt's recent Broadway residency and who among the movie's group cast is most active in their various channels.

"Is there a Pitch Perfect group chat? There's like selections. There's not the full cast because there's quite a lot of people, but we all definitely keep in touch one way or another," Astin says.

"Who do I keep in touch with the most? Probably the Trebles, Ben Platt, Adam Devine and Utkarsh [Ambudkar], those are the people I probably speak to the most."

"Honestly, we're all equally respectful. No one's blowing up the phone. It's a very purposeful chat. So it's like when there are big milestones, someone has a baby, you know, stuff like that, that's kind of when people reach out," he adds.

While chatting with PEOPLE on the red carpet, Astin also said he would be rooting for his friend Jonathan Groff in the best performance by a leading actor in a musical category.

Groff, whom Astin costarred with in the original Broadway production of Spring Awakening, is nominated for his role in Merrily We Roll Along, alongside Brian d'Arcy James (Days of Wine and Roses), Brody Grant (The Outsider), Dorian Harewood (The Notebook) and Eddie Redmayne (Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club).

"I mean, give that man a Tony already," Astin tells PEOPLE of Groff. "I've been asked a little bit on this carpet what I' most looking forward, to and I'm most hoping for Jonathan to win his category tonight. I don't like to play favorites, but he's my favorite."

The 2024 Tony Awards air live from Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater in New York City on Sunday, June 16, on CBS and Paramount + starting at 8 p.m. ET.
