A Place in the Sun buyers 'steal' huge home after 'cheeky' offer

A Place in the Sun host Ben Hillman was almost lost for words after a deal was done during Friday's episode.

The latest instalment of the hit Channel 4 show saw Ben in Monpazier, France, where he was on hand to help two potential buyers find their perfect holiday home. Shirley and Martyn had a budget of £285,000, and were looking for a three-bedroom house with traditional French features.

They also wanted a pool and an outbuilding, and Ben had lined up five properties to show them.

First up was a stone house with huge gardens and a covered terrace, and while Shirley and Martyn loved it from the outside, they soon realised it needed quite a bit of work doing to it. The next two properties also failed to wow the couple, but thankfully Ben seemed to strike gold with the fourth home.

A renovated farmhouse on the market for just over £252,000 also had its own barn and annex, on 4.2 acres of land. Shirley and Martyn said there was nothing they disliked about the property.

When it come to putting in offers, they both agreed they were sold on the farmhouse, but were not convinced on the asking price. Because they believed it needed some work, they decided to suggest a bid of £225,000 to the vendor.

Shirley explained: "It tests the waters, doesn’t it? You know, we’ve got to start somewhere." While the buyers were expecting a counter offer, shortly after calling the estate agent, Ben's phone rang and he was able to tell the couple their initial bid had been accepted.

He said: "Deal! Deal, like the deal of the century! That is just the best news".

Viewers were quick to react on X, formerly Twitter, as Angie said: "An absolute steal" and Diane said: "Talk about a cheeky offer!" Mo said: "Fair play, I wish them well".
