Yahoo News Plan for new Lidl store in this Herefordshire town is back on
Budget grocery chain Lidl has revived plans to build a store in a Herefordshire town alongside a new medical centre and children’s nursery.
The development would go immediately south of the Leadon Way / Ross Road / Dymock Road roundabout to the town, on what is currently a paddock.
Alongside the buildings there would also be “significant” landscaping and tree planting, as well as electric car charging points and cycle parking. Also being near bus stops “will help ensure residents are able to access the site by cycle or bus”, Lidl said.

It expects the new store to employ up to 40 staff, with “around 80 per cent” being filled locally.
It has launched a consultation website, ledbury.newsite.lidl.co.uk, where the public are invited to complete a survey of their views.

It is also running a drop-in consultation between 3 and 7pm on Tuesday June 25 at the Burgage Hall in the town’s Church Lane.

Following that it expects to make a full planning application.
A previous attempt to gain permission to develop the site was refused in early 2021, partly because of the feared impact the store would have on the town centre – a position backed by the town council.

Lidl’s planning appeal against the refusal was dismissed in September 2022.
“Following that decision, Lidl has undertaken further work to build its case for this mixed-use development, including further independent retail assessments,” the company said.
“Lidl believes the case for this mixed-use development has grown further in recent years.”
