School seems to be out for winter after teachers announced they would take part in a major walkout on February 1 that could bring the country to a standstill.

On the latest Planet Normal podcast, which you can listen to using the audio player above, columnists Liam Halligan and Allison Pearson weigh in on the move by teachers.

Allison believes it's "absolutely disgraceful" for teachers to go on strike when children have already missed out on so much education because of lockdown.

"We've got plunging academic attainment, soaring child mental health problems. And you think it's okay to go on strike?" she said.

Liam agrees that the disruption of education once again will be "a complete disaster for our children, for our society... for our economy."

"If the teachers think that they have got the public support that the nurses have got they're sorely mistaken," he warns.

Also joining the podcast to discuss NHS reform and the lasting effects of lockdown is Professor Angus Dalgleish.
