Plans for Edinburgh city centre to get new Irish sports bar with live music

Plans have been submitted to for a new Irish sports bar in the city centre.

An application has been submitted to Edinburgh Council for 104 Hanover Street - formerly occupied by Bar Soba before it closed down.

The proposals show the new venue will be called The Boston Bar - with an Irish sports pub theme. Plans show a proposed front sign emblazoned with 'Live music' and 'Live sports'.

Images show the 'The Boston Bar' logo in brushed dark gold metal and backlit in a cream/off-white colour.

The plans come over a year after the popular pan-Asian street food bar and restaurant closed its doors for good.

Following Bar Soba's closure, an advertisement for the new lease stated the venue would “undergo a refurbishment before opening as a new concept soon” by a new experienced operator “who will bring the eye-catching unit back to its former glory”.

The property was advertised as being in the heart of the 'golden rectangle', a central location in Edinburgh's New Town between St Andrew Square and Charlotte Square.

The venue will benefit from being situated next to other popular bars and restaurants including Chez Joules and Bibimbap.

The bar has a ground floor and basement level totalling 485 square metres - which had a cover of 140 as Bar Soba.

The property was advertised on a new lease agreement with starting rent of offers over £118,000 and a guide price of £50,000 being sought for the leasehold interest in the property and all fixtures and fittings.

The advert read: "This space offers a wonderful opportunity to an operator looking for a bar/restaurant space in one of Edinburgh’s most sought-after areas. The premises are in good order throughout and available for immediate entry once lease terms have been agreed."

Bar Soba venues are still open in Leeds and Glasgow on Mitchell Lane and Merchant City, respectively.
