Plans for new electric vehicle charging points at Craigneuk car wash confirmed

Plans for new electric vehicle charging points at a Craigneuk car wash have been given the green light.

The installation of six charging points, creating eight parking bays with one feeder pillar, one power bank, one substation and associated ancillary works at IMO Car Wash in Craigneuk Street were rubber-stamped by North Lanarkshire Council planners.

The planners report states: “The site is bordered to the north by further landscaping bordering a large roundabout with a small retail park/filling station services beyond.

“The proposal is for the siting of electric vehicle charging points with parking bays, electric substation and ancillary works

“The existing grassed area would become effectively a small car park area, specifically for the purpose of electric vehicle charging.

“This would consist of eight separate parking bays with six associated charging points (two of these being double units for charging two vehicles at once).

“The proposed development would be considered to be appropriate and would be suitable within what is established as an adjacent car wash site and it is not uncommon to see filling stations have washing facilities as well as EV charging points within such facilities.

“The proposal is considered to be satisfactory in size, purpose and design terms and will not harm the commercial amenity of the site of the surrounding area which has some residential properties nearby.

“The policies allow development of an ancillary nature to be acceptable.

“It is considered that the proposed development can be incorporated without having a detrimental impact on the character and setting of the site and wider area.”

No letters of objection were received in regards to the application.
