Initial proposals have been submitted to the council for a huge new development on the outskirts of Edinburgh including sport and leisure facilities, a care home and several shops.

A pre-application notice has been submitted ahead of engagement with locals over the 'Cramond Masterplan' with AMA Ltd and Calton Planning and Development behind the proposals.

In a short description of the project, they are proposing a mixed-use development comprising sport and leisure facilities, later living accommodation including a care home, commercial facilities including potential for shops and food and drink venues.

The location of the proposed sites lies 130 metres east of 14 Cramond Road North. If accepted by the council, the aforementioned leisure and sport facilities could include a synthetic pitch, active loop and sports hub featuring a gym and padel tennis courts.

Financial and business services are among other uses mentioned by the developer, with landscaping, new access and car parking all set to be included in a formal planning application expected soon.

In a cover letter to the City of Edinburgh Council, Calton Planning and Development wrote: "The submission of this Proposal of Application Notice follows an extensive period of appraisal and needs analysis work, including engagement with the local community, to undertake a fresh assessment of current sporting options and needs.

"As indicated on the enclosed PAN, the proposed format of the application is a Planning Permission in Principle Application, however as agreed in discussions with planning officers, the proposals will come forward as a ‘hybrid application’ with full detail of parts of the development included within the PPP application.

"It is the intention that the later living element of the proposals will come forward ‘in principle’ only, with full detail of the remainder of the scheme included as part of the PPP application. This will enable work to start sooner on the parts of the development which include the sports provision, before the full details of the later living element are known."
