Big Mac, quarter pounder and Fillet o Fish fans are in for a treat if plans for Surrey’s latest McDonalds go ahead. The fast food giant is planning to open its latest restaurant with a consultation currently underway over proposals to turn the vacant former Loch Fyne site in Cobham into the county’s 15th branch.

The American burger chain is in the early stages of plans for the Portsmouth Road site before it submits its bid to Elmbridge Borough Council. “We have long wanted to expand our presence into Cobham, to address an identified demand for McDonald’s in the area,” the consultation website which runs until May 23 says.

“We have recently acquired an interest in the former Loch Fyne restaurant site at 17 Portsmouth Road in Cobham. The site has lain vacant since the closure of the Loch Fyne restaurant. The Locally Listed Building is falling into a state of disrepair and our proposal would bring it back into active use as a restaurant to ensure its long-term viability."

“Our proposals will sensitively restore this disused site back into an employment generating facility which is in keeping with its former use as a restaurant.

"In doing so, we aim to offer residents of Cobham will a greater choice of food and drink and deliver a range of local benefits, including at least 120 new jobs across a range of full and part time positions.”

The restaurant would be a traditional sit-in diner with space for 60 people and takeaway - with no drive through services planned. The car park would hold 33 spaces including two disabled bays, two electric chargers and eight bike docks.

To limit litter, staff would carry out three litter picks within 150 metres of the restaurant each day to remove all rubbish, not just mess created by McDonald’s.
