Plans for new West Lothian housing scheme with 132 homes on edge of town

Barratt Homes has secured a site in partnership with Network Rail in Livingston for the construction of around 132 homes in the West Lothian town.

The housebuilder will construct on the 15.8acres Network Rail site and say their plans will look to create a new housing scheme that would include 25 per cent affordable homes.

Barratt say that the new Appleton Parkway site will be made up of 99 private properties and 33 affordable homes that range from bungalows, terraces, semi-detached and detached houses.

Over the last five years Barratt say they have built more than 400 homes in the Livingston area.

Nicholas Wright, Development Director for Barratt Developments East Scotland, said: “Livingston has been an extremely popular location for us over the past five years, with Barratt building more than 400 new homes in the area. The addition of Appleton Parkway will help continue our investment in West Lothian’s communities, joining our current sites in the area including Calderwood and Winchburgh.

“We’ve worked hand-in-hand with the Network Rail project team over the past two and a half years to bring this site forward and are pleased to be launching 99 private and 33 affordable homes - ranging from bungalows, terraces, semi-detached and detached properties.”

Network Rail say that the partnership is part of their development and regeneration strategy to try to utilise railway land by building homes for communities across the UK.

Robin Dobson, group property director for Network Rail property, said: “Partnering with major housebuilders like Barratt is central to our development and regeneration strategy as we unlock previously underutilised railway land. It is essential in ensuring we are able to strategically assist in delivering new homes and communities across Great Britain. We look forward to building on this partnership going forward.”

The site is in commuting distance to both Edinburgh (16.5 miles) and Glasgow (33.5 miles).

Livingston also has bus and train links to both cities and, for those who work in London or wish to travel further afield, Edinburgh airport is just 10.9 miles from the site.

Danielle Corker of Savills said: “This is an ideal site for Barratt. It is already an established and successful residential enclave, and will be very popular with house buyers”.
