Platinum wedding anniversary joy for Lockerbie couple

A Lockerbie couple reached a very special milestone last week.

Brenda and Neil Bell celebrated 70 years of marriage on June 26.

The pair met while Neil was in the Merchant Navy at a dance on board the Royal Iris in 1951. The couple ran several pubs on Merseyside during the 70s and 80s before retiring and moving to Lockerbie more than 20 years ago, although they will be moving to Dumfries shortly.

Brenda and Neil, who have three children, six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren celebrated 70 decades of married life with family members at the Somerton House Hotel in Lockerbie.

The couple received cards from the late Queen celebrating their 60th and 65th wedding anniversaries and a card from King Charles for their 70th was presented by Deputy Lieutenant Kate Thomson QPM.
