A Nottinghamshire country pub that is no stranger to winning awards has triumphed again. The Plough, in Normanton-on-the-Wolds, has won the 2024 crown for the best pub in Nottinghamshire in the National Pub and Bar Awards.

The accolades celebrate the cream of the crop in the UK, across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. A total of 94 county winners have been revealed.

The five in the East Midlands will compete against each other for the regional title, with the winner announced at a ceremony on June 26, along with the overall UK champion. The Plough, in Old Melton Road, will go head to head with The Railway in Belper, Derbyshire, The Forge Inn in Leicestershire, The Tollemache Arms, Northampton and The Olive Branch in Rutland.

Located in a picturesque village between the A52 and A46, The Plough won Best for Families in the Great British Pub Awards last year and its beer garden was named the best by Nottingham CAMRA.

The pub belongs to the Secret Pub Company, run by David Hage and Mark Osborne. The dynamic duo also own the award-winning Railway in Lowdham, The Radcliffe in Radcliffe-on-Trent and The Lambley.

They said: "We are all so thrilled and proud. Thank you to our incredible team for their professionalism, dedication, passion and hospitality obsession, that has delivered this award. Thank you also to YOU! Our loyal customers."

Tristan O’Hana, editor of Pub & Bar magazine, which organises the awards, said: "The fact that we had record entries for the 2024 National Pub & Bar Awards tells us two things. One is how highly the industry regards these accolades, which is fantastic. But, also, it shows that more operators are in need of really positive and strong publicity to help drive business at the moment.

"Pubs and bars are facing some of the biggest challenges in recent history, so if the National Pub & Bar Awards can help by lifting sales across these venues, then we’re delighted to play our part.”
