Plymouth Argyle putting relegation fight ahead of search for new boss

Plymouth Argyle have started the process to appoint a new head coach but for now they are completely focused on trying to secure their Championship survival.

The Pilgrims parted company with Ian Foster on Easter Monday, April 1, after just 87 days and 14 league games in his role following a very poor run of results. Director of football Neil Dewsnip, supported by long-serving first team coach Kevin Nancekivell, has taken charge until the end of the season and so far has led Argyle to two wins and a draw from three matches.

They have three more games remaining, with trips to Stoke City tomorrow and Millwall on Saturday, April 27 before a final fixture against Hull City at Home Park on Saturday, May 4.

As far as appointing a successor to Foster is concerned, Dewsnip said: "The focus is very much safety as fast as we possibly can and then we will start that search."

There is no timescale on when Argyle want to make an appointment by, but there will be a number of issues that need to be dealt with during the close season, such as contract negotiations, new signings, staffing and so on.

A trio of senior players - Callum Burton, Brendan Galloway and Mickel Miller - are out of contract this summer while recently-appointed coach Simon Ireland and physical performance coach David Tivey are on deals until the end of the campaign.

On the hunt for a new head coach, Dewsnip said: "I think it's very important that we run our process to the best of our ability and come up with the right candidate for Plymouth Argyle Football Club to go forwards."
