Plymouth Argyle tipped to re-sign Leeds United midfielder Darko Gyabi on loan

Leeds United midfielder Darko Gyabi has agreed to re-join Plymouth Argyle on loan next season, according to a report from Football Insider.

The 20-year-old arrived at Home Park on loan from Leeds in January, shortly after Ian Foster had been appointed as the club's head coach. He went straight into the Pilgrims' starting line-up when he made his debut in a 1-1 draw away to Huddersfield Town.

Gyabi went on to make nine Championship starts and one substitute appearance before his loan was prematurely ended by a groin injury and he returned to Leeds ahead of having surgery.

It also meant the Manchester City academy product, who joined Leeds for £5 million in the summer of 2022, missed out on a call-up for the England under-20s squad for two Euro Elite League games away to Poland and the Czech Republic.

Gyabi played most of his games for Argyle last season in midfield, but arguably his best performance came as a an attacking 'number 10' in the 2-0 win away to Middlesbrough in February.

Pete O'Rourke reported today that sources had told Football Insider that Gyabi had agreed a deal to return to Argyle on a season-long loan. He wrote: "Gyabi, 20, will this time play under the stewardship of Wayne Rooney after an encouraging stint in the second half of last term at Home Park.

"Football Insider (11 January) exclusively revealed Gyabi's first loan move to Argyle back in the winter transfer window, where he went on to make 10 Championship appearances before suffering an injury in late March."

"A full agreement is now understood to be in place between both clubs and the midfielder, who has also featured in the Premier League and Championship for Leeds."

O'Rourke added that Leeds were planning to strengthen their midfield area which would deny Gyabi regular opportunities in the Championship next season.

Last week, the South London Press reported that Argyle wanted to sign Crystal Palace's 19-year-old midfielder David Ozoh on a season-long loan.
