A road in Plymouth city centre will be closed until December as work begins on the new £25m “pure brilliant” health centre. From Monday, and lasting until December, the road at Colin Campbell Court will be closed at rear of Stroll on Baby, 24 hours a day.

The road is closed from Stroll on Baby onward, but customers can still drive to the shop and park. The closure is for works for the new community diagnostic centre to take place.

The four-storey Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) on Colin Campbell Court will face onto Western Approach. The building would be packed with the latest technology, including high-tech audiology, CT, x-ray, ultrasound and MRI gear.

It will contain multiple treatment and assessment rooms, with trained staff plus admin workers and welfare and support services. It is expected to relieve pressure on overstretched facilities at Derriford Hospital .

The closure of the road at the rear of Stroll on Baby is one of just many new roadworks schemes starting in Plymouth this week. For the next two weeks, on the A38 at the Manadon Roundabout, there will be alternating lane closures on all approaches to and exits from the roundabout, including slip roads. These closures for drainage survey works are in place from 7pm to 6am, excluding Friday and Saturday nights.

Plymouth City Council has helpfully put out a list of roadworks that will be taking place across the city over the next week. The council is responsible for coordinating works carried out by utility companies, developers and other organisations as well as their own repair, maintenance and improvement works.

They maintain all public roads in Plymouth except the A38, which is managed by National Highways on behalf of the Department for Transport.

“We know there's no good time to close roads, especially on busy routes and we do everything we can to co-ordinate planned works and minimise their impact on our transport network,” a City Council spokesman said.
