A Plymouth KFC store remains closed almost six weeks after a kitchen fire broke out. The Crownhill Retail Park fast-food outlet has been closed since Sunday, March 17.

Firefighters from Camels Head, Crownhill and Greenbank were called to the incident at 9.52pm with reports of a fire involving a deep fat fryer within the kitchen area.

KFC has confirmed nobody was hurt in the incident but the Tavistock Road store remains closed for "safety reasons". KFC says the restaurant will be back open in due course, although a reopening date has not been given.

A spokesperson for KFC said: "The safety of our guests and team members is always our top priority. Following a fire at our Crown Hill restaurant, we’ve closed for safety reasons, but we’re pleased to report no one was hurt.

"The restaurant will remain temporarily closed, but fear not, we’ll be back soon! In the meantime, our Marsh Mills or Mutley Plain KFCs are round the corner for your fried chicken fix.”

Workers at the Crownhill restaurant have been temporarily relocated to stores across the city.
