Plymouth planning list: Flat to be turned into ice cream parlour

Plans have been submitted for a new ice cream parlour for Plymouth. The scheme would see the ground floor on a flat on King Street converted into a new business.

The existing property on 143 King Street comprises of a ground floor studio flat and a first and second floor two bedroomed flat. The ground floor flat would be in need of upgrading, a statement with the application to Plymouth City Council says.

Applicant Lukman Kader, in the statement, said a better use would be the proposal to convert the ground floor flat to form an ice cream parlour. Mr Kadar owns two adjacent businesses know as Nawroz Stores and the Nawroz Restaurant that specializes in Middle Eastern food.

The application says: “It is well supported and a popular venue for diners. The proposed Ice Cream Parlour would be known as Nawroz Desserts and would run in conjunction with the restaurant that is in the adjacent building

“It would appear from visual inspection that the property 143 King Street was previously in use as a shop. The extent of the previous shopfront is clearly evident and shown on the plans as existing. It is anticipated that the new facility proposed would be very popular with local residents. The conversion would represent a considerable upgrading to the neighbourhood.”
