There are 21 new roadworks schemes starting in Plymouth this week. These are in addition to the list of existing works which are already under way and ongoing – but one scheme set to take place has been postponed.

There were due to be overnight closures for Wolseley Road as part of the St Budeaux Square Improvement Scheme. These were due to take place on 7,8 and 9 May but will now go ahead from 20 to 22 May. Traffic will not be able to turn into Fletemoor Road from the Wolseley Road roundabout but will be able to turn out.

The change is due to unexpected ground conditions – a big slab of concrete – beneath the road surface of Wolseley Road, which means the contractors have to alter how they construct the new bus bay, Plymouth City Council in a statement said.

Schemes that are going ahead though include traffic lights on Tavistock Road. On Thursday night, there will be three-way signals from Woolwell Roundabout to Turners of Roborough, 8pm to 6am, while one lane will be closed on approach to and around Woolwell Roundabout, 8pm to 6am.

Plymouth City Council has helpfully put out a list of roadworks that will be taking place across the city over the next week. The council is responsible for coordinating works carried out by utility companies, developers and other organisations as well as their own repair, maintenance and improvement works.

They maintain all public roads in Plymouth except the A38, which is managed by National Highways on behalf of the Department for Transport.

“We know there's no good time to close roads, especially on busy routes and we do everything we can to co-ordinate planned works and minimise their impact on our transport network,” a City Council spokesman said.
