Plymouth's latest plans including trendy new student hangout

A new study garden and seating area are to be unveiled at Plymouth College. Plans have been approved for the scheme which will see six seating pods, including the creation of an inverted arch entrance at Ford Park.

Currently, the site is left unmaintained, overgrown and under-used, predominately acting as an informal storage area for outdoor activities equipment such as canoes, and remains largely inaccessible to students. As such, the site offers an excellent opportunity for creating a new formalised space designed for students, expanding upon Plymouth College’s existing facilities, while improving the look of this area, a statement with the planning application had said.

The proposal submitted to Plymouth City Council said they would utilise this space by creating a new study garden for students. It proposed a total of six timber seating pods set within a maintained square grass lawn, to provide an attractive and peaceful space for students to sit and study.

A statement with the application added: “In conclusion, the proposed study garden at Plymouth College represents a thoughtful and well-considered enhancement to the existing facilities, aiming to revitalise an underutilised and neglected area within the campus. The design, incorporating seating pods, a maintained lawn, and landscaped planting areas, is poised to offer students a serene and conducive environment for study and reflection, thereby contributing to the overall educational experience.”

Approving the plans under delegated powers, officers from Plymouth City Council said: “Officers concluded that the proposal is acceptable and accords the Local Plan.”

Plymouth City Council planners will determine the fate of all the new applications listed below at a later date. Below is the full latest list of planning applications that have been submitted this week.
