Just in case you somehow managed to forget, there's a live-action Pokemon movie in the works, and it's now cast its first star.

Justice Smith, who you may have seen in Baz Luhrmann's Netflix musical drama The Get Down, has joined the film titled Detective Pikachu as the human lead, Variety reports.

Smith, 22, is still relatively new to the acting game, but although The Get Down won't be back for a second season, he's got big things ahead with a role in the next Jurassic World movie Fallen Kingdom. Luhrmann also personally handpicked him for The Get Down.

Not much is known about Detective Pikachu just yet, but we do know that Goosebumps and Shark Tale director Rob Letterman is on board, working from a script by Guardians of the Galaxy's Nicole Perlman and Gravity Falls' Alex Hirsch.

It'll also be based on the 2016 Nintendo 3DS game Great Detective Pikachu, which follows a peculiar talking Pikachu who, despite not being as powerful and nimble as other Pikachu of his kind, is rather intelligent and claims to be a great Sherlock-style detective.

As for who could be joining Smith in the movie, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has been rumoured to voice the titular character, while Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and Mark Wahlberg's names have also been bandied around. So, you know, no-one too big.

Detective Pikachu hasn't been handed a release date by Legendary Pictures yet, although with shooting expected to start in January 2018, expect more news soon.
