Never mind the football and Love Island, because Poldark still knows how to dish up the drama on a Sunday night.

In this week's instalment, Ross is off to take up his seat in Parliament, with a lot of letter-writing and horse-riding montages to signal the passage of time. And one or two people thought they recognised the setting...

There was time to see Ross make a few stirring speeches about topics including the abolition of slavery and child labour, but he was soon heading back from that there London to deal with some constituency matters – including breaking up a fight or two…

However, there's a new villain around, as if having George Warleggan *and* the Reverend Osborne Whitworth plotting and scheming wasn't enough.

Enter Monk Adderley, who George has hired to claw back a bit of power now that his arch rival's a Member of Parliament and he's not.

Needless to say, viewers don't trust the newcomer…

But don't worry. There's still time to hate on George (who even had the idea of buying his way to power by purchasing an *entire borough*, by the way)...

In happier news, Ross and Demelza seem to be patching things up with an emotional heart-to-heart… followed by some (ahem) practical use of a kitchen table.

And elsewhere, Caroline and Dwight have welcomed their baby girl Sarah – but could their joy be short-lived?

However, it seems like what's coming up next week could provide even more drama – and not necessarily of the good kind…

Poldark airs on Sundays at 9pm on BBC One in the UK, and on PBS in the US. Pre-order the season 1-4 box set on DVD or Blu-ray now.
