Police appeal after gang of youths savagely beat 60-year-old in Paisley

A man has been hospitalised after being beaten severely by a gang of youths in Paisley.

The 60-year-old victim was set upon by vicious thugs on Ferguslie Park Avenue after the St Mirren v Kilmarnock match at the SMiSA Stadium on Saturday around 5pm.

Police have said that he suffered serious, but not life-threatening, injuries as a result of the assault. The man was seen to by medics at University Hospital Crosshouse in Kilmarnock where he received treatment.

Detectives in Renfrewshire are now appealing for information and witnesses following the serious assault. They’re asking anybody who has information regarding the incident to get in touch.

Detective Constable Robert Urquhart of Paisley CID said: “Extensive enquiries are being carried out to establish the full circumstances of this incident.

“We know that the area was busy at the time and would ask anyone who witnessed the incident and who hasn’t already spoken to police to get in touch.

“I would also ask any motorists with dash-cams who were in the area to check their footage in case they have captured anything which could assist with the investigation.”

St Mirren FC have also asked supporters who were at the match on Saturday to help police identify those responsible for the attack.

A spokesperson from the club said: “The club is appealing to any St Mirren supporter that was leaving the White car park onto Ferguslie Park Avenue at the end of Saturday’s fixture and may have dash-cam footage of an incident that took place involving an elderly gentleman.

“Anyone that may have footage of the incident is encouraged to pass it on to Police Scotland or contact 101.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police via 101 quoting incident 2101 of May 11. Alternatively, people can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, if they wish to remain anonymous.
