A police appeal has been launched following reports of a man committing indecent exposure in Benfleet.

Essex Police has urged two witnesses to get in touch after being called to London Road, Benfleet, after 1:15pm on Tuesday.

This was following reports of a man committing indecent exposure.

Officers believe two women may be able to assist with their investigation and are urging them to get in touch.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Officers investigating a report of indecent exposure in Benfleet on Tuesday, July 2 are appealing for two potential witnesses to get in touch.

"We were called to London Road at just after 1.15pm to reports that a man had committed indecent exposure.

"A 55-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure. He has been released under investigation and has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

"Anyone with information should contact us.

"Please cite incident 0585 of 2 July."
